Want to make Grounded easier? Want to make Grounded cooler? Check out these PC mods.

Grounded is a game where you are shrunk to the size of insects, and your survival playground is the perilous backyard. With this wonderful premise, a vast map to explore, and tons of insects to slay, the game is filled with things to do.

With the game being on PC, you can bet there is a modding community that can further fine-tune your Grounded experience. Although not as robust as some other survival games like Minecraft, Ark: Survival Evolved, or Conan Exiles, the library of mods for Grounded comprises some nifty little quality-of-life tweaks and some goofy cosmetic changes.

Disclaimer: Grounded’s 1.0 release on September 27 meant many popular mods were broken at the time of writing this article. So, please read through the description page and the user posts tab of the respective mods on Nexus to ensure they are working on the current version of the game.

Bye Bye Depth Of Field by Xxbuckhunter1999

While the aggressive depth of field effect of Grounded enhances the joy of exploration and makes the map feel bigger, the novelty wears off for many players throughout a long playthrough. Unfortunately, there is no depth of field slider in the game.

And this is where this little mod comes in. You also get a tangible frame rate boost and a lot less stuttering with the resource-intensive effect being gone. However, be warned, it may reveal some broken meshes and placeholder textures that weren’t meant to be seen.

Who enjoys looking at the same splash screens every time they open the game? This mod removes the intro screens of Obsidian Entertainment, Xbox Game Studios, and Unreal Engine and lets you dive straight into the action.

More Active Mutations by FistMeSenpai

Grounded starts you off with two mutation slots, which you can upgrade to five with milk molars that you find throughout the world. You might have already felt that the five mutation slots of the base game are a bit limiting.

The More Active Mutations mod comes with two options, one that changes the number of slots to eight and another that puts it to 35. Eight seems like the sweet spot in terms of not feeling too limited, all the while not being too overpowered. However, we won’t be judging if you use the second version of the mod and use all the game mutations to your heart’s content.

More BURG.L Quest Rewards by Sidiusz

If you felt that the default rewards for the quests offered by the friendly robot were a bit on the disappointing end, this mod will suit your fancy. With four options to choose from (x2, x4, x6, x10), this mod multiplies the rewards you get from quests involving insect-slaying, crafting, and analysis.

Depending on the version of the mod you choose, this can reduce a lot of grind from the game.

Better Status Effects by Gurudo99

For how tedious they are to make, smoothies in the base game offer far too little in terms of benefits. This mod addresses the issue and increases the duration of buffs that you get from smoothies to five minutes from the default two minutes.

Moreover, the mod also amplifies the healing you get from applying bandages and the poison damage over time.

Every survival game has a canteen of some sort. And with how often you have to drink to stay hydrated, it must get boring looking at the same canteen.

This fun little mod replaces the canteen model with real-life soft drink cans. You can now finally role-play your Pepsi-guzzling insect-slayer to your heart’s content. No worries if you are not a fan of Pepsi. You can choose between a total of eight versions to download.

The exploration in Grounded is pure fun. By making good use of the large landmarks peeking over the giant grass blades around you, you can easily navigate through the backyard with some thought. This is a masterful game design, rewarding the more attentive players.

However, if you are more of a fan of using the cardinal directions for navigating, this mod adds a compass to the HUD. If you have played Subnautica, you will feel right at home.

A New Hauling Master by menv

So you harvested one grass blade, and now there are a bunch of planks on the ground. With the game only letting you carry five planks and stems at once, carrying so many resources is tiring when you are trying to build a sizable base.

A New Hauling Master mod cranks up the number of planks and stems you can carry to 50 instead of the usual five. However, the mod author warns against stepping into the water or going into photo mode while carrying stuff as that is known to crash the game.
