Jeroen Verheul, a cucumber grower from Maarssen, has been working with Delphy to develop hygiene procedures. The clean greenhouse agreement, which is the starting point for clean cultivation, has now achieved results.

Jeroen owns a 3.7 hectare company in Maarssen. He has invested more than two decades and turned the family business into a modern enterprise. "We used to have a lot of trouble with Fusarium. A few years ago, we had a lot of trouble with viruses. It got worse and worse, and it started getting earlier and earlier, until I started cleaning everything: removing the aluminum foil , Clean” drains and greenhouses, clean the recycling process. We have removed the dead ends of the pipes. The water must be able to flow into the well immediately, and the well must be clean. "

Planting 3 crops each year, the company's goal is 200 cucumbers per square meter. One feature is the internal transportation of the harvested cucumbers, which are transported to the hall by robot carts and placed in the buffer system completely automatically. The cart is then filled with empty crates and then returned to the greenhouse unattended, saving costs every day. Jeroen chose a variation in his work: harvest the plants in the morning and sort them in the (cool) shed in the afternoon.

Hygiene procedures Delphy Jeroen works with Delphy to develop hygienic procedures. Experience taught them to develop guidelines for flushing pipes, removing drainage, and product use. Jeroen: "Too much of a certain disinfectant caused damage. To fight the virus, we now use disinfectants that can be grown safely without residue or vapor effects."

Hygiene procedures guide the work sequence, methods, and use of products. It is set by company and includes steps such as removal of organic materials, cleaning, plastic removal, and disinfection. The order of cleaning the greenhouse is crucial. If the greenhouse is clean, the next step is to prevent pollution. By staying alert to symptoms, you can quickly isolate emerging viruses.

How it works Delphy believes that accurate work is the path to success. One of the consultants, Ewoud van der Ven: “In order to achieve this goal, a company-specific plan was developed and the consultant supervised its implementation. The focus is mainly on the hygiene process. The agreement allows all products to be in the market. The consultant and the grower jointly determine the best Suitable product.

Jeroen: "Our work is very meticulous. There is no organic material left in the greenhouse. We use as many new materials as possible, such as rock wool and plastic. The recycling process is controlled. Merely changing the agent will not solve the problem virus; structured Cleanliness is the answer. In the past two years, we have never encountered a virus problem again; the hygiene procedures have been proven here."
