President Joe Biden signed an executive order requiring the federal government to strengthen the purchase of union-made electric cars and other technologies needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Biden signed an executive order that set a new goal for the federal government to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 65% by the end of the decade and reduce federal emissions to zero by 2050.

The White House statement said: "Through this order, President Biden ensures that when the federal government spends taxpayer money, the money will be spent on U.S. workers' U.S.-made goods and U.S.-made parts."

"This executive order fulfills President Biden's commitment to make "purchase American goods" a real thing and close the loopholes, allowing companies to offshore production and jobs while still complying with domestic preferential conditions."

The Biden administration plans to re-adjust the U.S. government's long-standing attitude toward domestic preferences in order to create a growing number of "high-quality union jobs." Unsurprisingly, the American Federation of Auto Workers expressed appreciation for this move.

"President Biden correctly understands that we can solve the problem of carbon emissions and turn it into an economic opportunity through the conversion of federal fleets and reduce the federal government's carbon footprint, retaining and creating future good union-paying jobs," U.S. Auto Worker Said the union.

"President Biden's executive order today seizes this opportunity to maintain, create and increase good union job opportunities in the coming decades."

According to a GSA press release, the General Services Administration has prepared to spend more than $1.5 billion on new non-military vehicles in 2022.

The Biden administration’s preference for union-made cars extends to potential tax credits for electric car buyers, who purchase battery electric cars now awaiting US Biden’s approval to get 4,500 per union-made car in the "Rebuild Better" plan. Additional credit in US dollars.

These credits have been repeatedly attacked by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He has repeatedly attacked Biden on Twitter because the American Auto Workers Union represents about half of the auto workers in the United States and other countries.

Toyota and Volkswagen have also been lobbying Congress not to approve tax credits for vehicles made by unionized workers. The target is Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia), who is expected to be a key voter for the plan.

At the same time, GSA stated that it has launched a series of pilot programs to include electric vehicles in government services. In Boston, the U.S. Veterans Administration plans to add electric vehicles to its fleet serving patients at VA facilities around the city.

GSA stated that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin field testing of Ford's Mustang Mach-E ZEV manufactured in Mexico in early 2022 for use in its law enforcement fleet, which currently has more than 30,000 vehicles.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares warned in a meeting with reporters earlier this week that automakers cannot rely on government subsidies to stimulate the adoption of electric vehicles. In fact, subsidies are often the target of political infighting and budget cuts.

Electric vehicles require infrastructure for charging and clean energy. Tavares said that if the energy used to charge electric vehicles is coal, oil or natural gas, rather than clean renewable energy, the entire project to use electric vehicles to combat climate change and reduce carbon dioxide emissions will fail.
