Constructions continues on the Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Replacement project in Belle Chasse on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. The $162 million project will replace the aging bridge-and-tunnel span over the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway on Louisiana Highway 23 in Plaquemines Parish.
The movable bridge began operating in 1968 and the tunnel in 1956.
The new fixed-span bridge will include four lanes, wider shoulders, and a bicycle path.
