Greenhouses are usually used to grow out-of-season products during the cold season. But in summer, conditions for plants in greenhouses are far from ideal. However, many people have a question: "Why grow strawberries in the garden or other crops in a greenhouse in the summers if it's too hot there?" The answer to this question depends on the culture. But in the case of garden strawberries, for example, if you already have a greenhouse where products are grown in winter, it makes no sense not to use it in summer. Moreover, even in summer, the berry from the greenhouse will have higher quality than the berry grown in the open field. Therefore, it will be possible to get a higher price for greenhouse strawberries than for berries grown in the open field.
Bakhtiyor Abduvokhidov, founder of Kharif LLC and long-term consultant for the EastFruit project, spoke about the cooling technologies of his modern greenhouses, where he grows the best varieties of Italian garden strawberries. In addition, he shares life hacks on how to save money on building greenhouses. For example, they did not buy windows for greenhouse ventilation but made them themselves. "I decided to grow strawberries all year, so it is important for me to keep the plants alive so that their growth continues all the time. And the temperature in the greenhouse in summer rises to 53-57 degrees. Therefore, we stretch a special shading mesh with a density of 55-75%. We remove polyethylene from the sides so that there is ventilation. In addition, we installed special sprinklers at the top of the greenhouse, which turn on automatically. They work for 30-60 seconds and bring down the temperature by 5-10 degrees, creating a comfortable temperature for the plants. For this, we use ice water. It is better not to bring down the temperature by 10 degrees right away because it will be stressful for the plants. It is better to shoot down more often, but not more than 5 degrees," he said.
"Even in winter, the greenhouse needs to be ventilated to maintain a healthy microclimate. In particular, it helps to remove excess moisture, which is the cause of plant disease. The Dutch gave us 4,000 euros a piece for automatic vents, and we have ten blocks. Accordingly, it would cost 40 thousand euros, but we thought it was too expensive for us, so we made them by hand. This made it exactly ten times cheaper, so we don't spend money on energy, because we open and close by ourselves. It is also useful physical education for us," Bakhtiyor said.
