After the Court of Amsterdam granted a moratorium on payments last week to J.M. Levarht & Zonen B.V. (Levarht) declared bankruptcy on 1 March 2022 for the fruit and vegetable company from Aalsmeer. The appointed trustees are Mr. M.R. van Zanten and Mr. M.N. de Groot of CMS Derks Star Busmann. Van Zanten indicates that from the suspension of payments he has looked at how parts can be preserved to minimize the damage for the creditors.

"We have spoken to a large number of parties about this, one of which was the most serious. We have reached agreement with that party to make a new start to see which activities can be continued. This party, Fruit Cleaning Services from Venlo, shareholders who operate globally have already bought the Levarht name, the brands in use and the goodwill of the company, and they will use the coming period to talk to the employees to see which employees and businesses are coming along. This means the first step has been taken in a quick manner. Hopefully we will move into the second phase soon."

What the trustee noticed in the conversations is the "unbelievably good name that Levarht has in this market. They have committed employees, who go the extra mile for their customers and serve a nice segment in this market with very valuable customers. After the problems that have arisen, I am pleased that research is now being conducted into how the activities can be partially kept together."

Arjan Levarht stated on the Aalsmeer Vandaag-site that the turnover was largely obtained from the United States, Japan, the Middle East and the Far East. "Due to the corona pandemic, we were able to export much less last year. Until 2020, eight out of ten things went right, in 2021 nine out of ten things went wrong."
