Plans are underway to build a new agricultural hydroponic plant in South Holland, Illinois. The local company Jepco behind the project aims to expand its production at Gedney Marsh using technologies designed to reduce environmental impact.

A planning application outlines a three-phase development project that includes a 10 hectare (24.7 acre) greenhouse with shading shutters to reduce potential light pollution. If the project is approved, it will provide up to 60 equivalent full-time jobs on site.

The company's CEO Stuart Piccavar (Stuart Piccavar) said that because advanced technology and automation will reduce the demand for unskilled labor, these jobs will be skilled and open throughout the year. "This is the crystallization of the technology we have been researching and testing in other factories. One thing we need to do is negative carbon emissions, which is entirely possible," said Mr. Picawal, whose grandfather founded it in 1946 This company.

Solar panels and three wind turbines will be used to provide energy for the site near the company's Norfolk farm. "When adopting dry hydroponics, the company is seeking to further develop its activities to increase efficiency and optimize the resources that can be harvested from fertile areas," said a document submitted to the South Holland District Council with the application.

The report added: "The business is now at an important juncture of development, and hydroponics provides an opportunity to actively respond to the challenge." The proposed site is currently an area that has never been developed. In addition to renewable energy, the development project will also provide any surplus power to the national grid, which can also be stored on-site together with industrial batteries.
