What's the home of La Diva? It's the greenhouse of Les Serres Royales, a Canadian greenhouse company that has been developing this exquisite brand for many years and nowadays offers various tomatoes under it. Yet, there's more going on behind the doors of Les Serres Royales.
In 1996, the company, located in Saint-Jérôme in the Lower Laurentians, built its first gutter-connected greenhouse. In 2015, with 3 hectare of greenhouses in operation, the company doubles its growing area by investing in its 1st conventional Venlo greenhouse project, a 3 hectare project, with KUBO, which was built in 2 phases ending in 2016.
After a few years of growing in this glass greenhouse, noticing the quality of the climate, the better light transmission and the noticeable increase of the harvests, discussions with the KUBO representative began, on the advantages. Challenges and the possibilities that the Ultra-Clima greenhouse could offer in our difficult climate, Mr. Lemieux succeeded in rallying his team and his financial partners to accept a new challenge, another major change, a semi-enclosed greenhouse.
In 2020, a new project was born, 3 hectare of Ultra-Clima greenhouses with artificial lighting is ordered by the year-end.
In the spring of 2021, the construction of the project takes place in the difficult period of Covid-19. "Through a team effort, commitment to success and constant communication and collaboration of all subcontractors, consultants, local workers and the Kubo team, we have, all together, managed to deliver this project within 2 weeks of the scheduled delivery date", the team shares.
Les Serres Royales: Founded in 1995, Les Serres Royales is a family business located in Saint-Jérôme in the Lower Laurentians. Parents Cécile and Gilles Lemieux, along with their two sons Stephan and Pascal, have grown the company from 10,000 square feet to 900 000 square feet today!
Three months after the planting date, Mr. Lemieux and his team are very satisfied with the results they are getting from the Ultra-Clima greenhouse and the close collaboration of the KUBO Smart Growing team who is following them to improve the fine tuning of all the parameters and accelerate the learning curve of this new production tool by the Les Serre Royales team.
Climate uniformity, improved light transmission, energy savings and a record first harvest for the company confirm that the Ultra-Clima greenhouse is delivering what it was designed to do.
With this in mind, future projects are in sight.
